  • Jealousy

    January 10, 2013

    devotional
    Set:

Christian coaches are called to use their gifts for the glory of God and His kingdom. When we are generous with our talent and work to set an example of faithful stewardship, we allow our team to witness God at work in our lives. As coaches it is important that we make a point of guiding our teams away from the turmoil that comes through envy and selfish ambition.

Hockey Chat:  Can you imagine during a game have a bunch of guys sitting on the bench.  Then a skater comes up from your team ready to line change and every one on the bench just looks at each other.  No one knows who is going to what position.  Who’s up next?  No pre-thought to what happens next, just confusion.  Great teams know ahead of time who is going where and when.  The coach has planned what line to go out next.  He’s placed the players where they will be most effective and with others they will be effective skating with.

  • Jesus Didn't Tap

    June 09, 2010

    devotional
    Set:

I must admit that one of my guilty pleasures is to watch MMa (mixed martial arts) fights, particularly fights in the UFC.  Mixed Martial Arts is a hodge podge of wrestling, boxing, taekwondo, jui jitsu, and other fighting styles thrown into an 8-sided cage.  Fighters battle for 15 minutes (25 minutes for championship bouts) until someone is knocked out, the referee stops the action, or a fighter “taps out”.  The act of “tapping out” tells your opponent, the referee, and the millions watching on pay-per-view that you gave up because you are feeling immense pain brought on by your opponent.

  • Jesus Tough

    December 03, 2012

    devotional
    Set:

Life demands toughness. I thought it was tough being a student. Then I got a real job. Tough! I thought it was tough playing in the NFL. Then I got married. Tough! I thought it was tough being married. Then I had kids.
    Tough!
