  • Do You Think You're Smart?

    January 26, 2009

    devotional
    Set:

Sitting in a job interview I was asked by the president of the school, “Do you think you’re smart?” I had never been asked that in a job interview. Not knowing how to respond, I quickly said, "My mother thinks I am!" After the laughter stopped (and I got the job), he explained to me what he had meant. He told me the job would require great depth of knowledge, and the person hired would have to understand on how to attack the position effectively. The job required a great deal of discipline and dedication.

  • Do You Trust Me?

    September 18, 2012

    devotional
    Set:

There’s a scene in the Disney movie “Aladdin” in which Jasmine is out on the balcony of her palace and Aladdin is on his magic carpet trying to get her to come with him and go explore “A Whole New World.” The key line in the scene is when Aladdin says to Jasmine, “Do you trust me?” Jasmine agrees to trust Aladdin and is taken on the ride of her life!

That same type of trust is required from us as Christians when we decide to follow God. With God, belief alone is not enough; we must trust Him with our lives. Just believing in God is no good to us. We need to have faith in Him, and trust is the next step from faith.

  • Do Your Best Where God Has You

    • Coach Coale joked about not being able to cook. However, she said to do the best in every area of your life. What areas of your life are you doing the best in right now?
    • What benefits do we receive athletically when we strive to be the best we can be in every situation?
    • Have you ever slacked on a play or not given your best in a game or practice? What was the outcome of that situation?
    • Read Colossians 3:23-24. Why do you think Paul said, “Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically”?
    • Why does our focus change when we strive to do something for the Lord, not for others?
    • Serving the Lord in this way brings greater clarity to life.

  • Do-Over

    October 15, 2013

    devotional
    Set:

I don’t know about other neighborhoods, but when I was younger we had the “do-over.” If our feet went out from under us or we miskicked the ball in a kickball game, what were the first words out of our mouths? “Do-over!”

Amazingly, God gave us a do-over! Paul wrote to the church in Corinth that when they accepted Christ, they were a new creation. The same is still true for us. When we accept Christ as Savior and Lord, we are a new creation. This means that no matter what our lives were like before we knew Christ or how many times we slip, we get a chance to do it again, completely free of charge.

  • Does He Still Feel The Nails

    September 30, 2003

    skit

Two friends are visiting. The Christian friend tries to persuade the sinner that he needs Christ. The sinner is not ready for that and walks away. (Play the song here.) He runs into one demon at a time who burdens him with a sign (sin) of alcohol, sex, rebellion, etc. He acts confused and weighted down. Then he runs into Satan who calls his demons and they torture the sinner. He calls for help from his friend, but he can’t help and yells, “Only Jesus can help you.” The man being tortured realizes Jesus is the answer and yells “Jesus, I need you.” Jesus comes and slays the demons. Then he takes the sins off one at a time and stands on them and holds the sinner (till the end of the song).

    Set:
No matter what the conditions, I love to get in a morning run. If I don’t do it early, it won’t happen, especially when I’m traveling.

  • Dog Soldier

    January 11, 2014

    devotional
    Set:

When the Cheyenne Indians were going into battle, they had a warrior who rode out in front know as the “Dog Soldier.” What set this soldier apart from the rest was that he would lead his tribe into battle and when the fighting reached its hottest, when no one knew who would win, the Dog Soldier would dismount his horse and drive his stake into the ground. He was attached to the stake by a rope. Everyone knew that the Dog Soldier could be counted on to take a stand and fight to the finish. He was a leader because he was a servant.

  • Doing a Great Work

    February 11, 2013

    devotional
    Set:

Coach Jones’s team lost a couple of games that had seemed like sure wins, and the wolves were howling for a change. Coach Jones had allowed his disappointment to turn to discouragement, and he was feeling pretty low. Right about that time a friend came to him and quoted Samuel Johnson: “Great works are not accomplished by strength, but by perseverance.” His friend added, “You are doing a great work and it’s a lot bigger than football.
