Pay It Forward-Give Back What God Gave You

Key Verse: "Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have." -  2 Corinthians 8:12

    • Kati is a great example of perseverance, and she has decided to give back what she has learned to others.  Why is it so easy to just focus on our own problems rather than help others with their struggles?

    • Kati has displayed all the core values of integrity, teamwork, excellence, and serving.  How has she shown excellence in her athletic career?  What were the things holding her back?

  • Keep It Simple

    June 18, 2012

    devotional
    Set:

Recently, I’ve been struck by the simple way in which children think. This spring, I volunteered at a camp, and as part of the curriculum, we were teaching the story of Daniel and the Lions' Den. When we asked the kids questions, a young girl around 5 years old would always answer in the simplest way, but I could tell she understood the story better than most kids her age. When the group was asked how Daniel was saved from the lions' den, the young girl said something to this effect: “Daniel trusted that God would keep him safe because God loves Daniel.”

A few weeks ago my family travelled to San Francisco to support my dad in the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. The athletes actually swam 1.5 miles from Alcatraz Island to the shore, completed an 18-mile bike ride and then finished with an 8-mile run.

  • Keep your head up!

Hockey Chat:  The Sabers and Fylers had been battling in a 2-2 tie in overtime. RJ Umberger (Philly) had been taking some hits from heavy man Brian Campbell (Buffalo).  RJ had shrugged off getting roughed up before and didn’t think much as he grabbed the puck headed up ice with 8 minutes left.  But just as he got to the blue line, with thoughts of skating up ice and scoring on his mind, Campbell met him hard in what RJ thought was open ice, and laid him out.  Always, always keep your head up when skating up.  You can watch the video here HEADS UP.

  • Keep Your Helmet On!

    June 14, 2010

    devotional
    Set:

When I played college football, our coach insisted that we wear our helmets from the moment we left the locker room until the end of the game. We were only allowed to remove our helmets during half-time while in the locker room. He was adamant that our helmets stay on during the course of the game. I always complied, but thought this demand was a little excessive. Everyone understands the merits of wearing a helmet during competition, but few would understand the necessity of wearing one otherwise.

Hockey Chat:  Since 1905 in playoff games between in the NHL, MLB, and NBA there have been well over 800 playoff series.  Within those series, over 230 teams have taken a 3 games to none lead.  Only twice in the NHL (less than 1%) has a team come from behind three games to win the series.  That means the team that gets ahead has a better than 99% chance of winning the series.

    Keeping Up With the Jones

If you meet Nichole Jones on the starting line she’ll probably smile at you, but then when the gun goes off, she’ll leave you in the dust. Don’t take it personally, though; she does that to everyone. “We call her the Smiling Assassin,” says Todd Harbour, Baylor’s head track/cross country coach. “She’ll smile at you and then just beat you bad.”

This 5’2”speedster is a quiet giant, both athletically and spiritually, who’d rather show you what she’s about than tell you.
