Ready:

“This is what the LORD says: ‘Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls…’”
-Jeremiah 6:16

Set:

Across from the headquarters of FCA, atop a hill, is a tall communications tower. In the almost three years that I’ve worked here, I’ve glanced at this tower hundreds of times and never given it a second look. But yesterday morning I caught myself daydreaming. It was in this daydream that God taught me a beautiful lesson--one He’s been teaching me over and over again for the last several weeks.

At the top of this tower is a flashing light. It guides air traffic and prevents aircrafts from flying into it. No matter the time, day or season, this light continues to flash, and communication continues to be broadcast.

Just like I’ve overlooked this tower, I think we often overlook God. For years I’ve compartmentalized or boxed-up my communication with God. In the mornings, at meals, at church, these were times I “talked” to God. But God, through the Holy Spirit and His Word is always broadcasting. He is always guiding us, instructing us in the path we should take. And I believe He is just as concerned with where we’re going tonight to eat as He is with what church we go to or what job we take. Big or small in our eyes, God has a desire and opinion on every aspect of our life.

As you pray, don’t leave God at home. Don’t leave Him at your lunch table or in your church. Speak to Him throughout the day, seek His counsel and take legitimate time to wait on Him. In silence, let the Holy Spirit speak His desires.

This evening, as I left our office, the communications tower was still there and the glow of the light on top was still flashing. Talk to your Creator all the time, no matter the topic, and patiently wait for His reply.

Go:

1. In what areas of your life, big or small, do you need to seek God’s desires?
2. What can you do to break the habit of “leaving God behind”?
3. What times throughout your day can you use to talk to God quietly or aloud? (i.e., bus ride, car ride, study hall, etc)
