“For as the body is one and has many parts, and all the parts of that body, though many, are one body — so also is Christ.”
-1 Corinthians 12:12
At the beginning of this soccer season, we had a good combination of experienced/inexperienced starters and substitutes. I thought we were right where we needed to be. We jumped out to a 3-0 record. But then we lost a key forward due to a broken leg, and, two weeks later, our leading scorer broke his ankle. Fortunately, my players took it upon themselves to step it up. The bad thing was that each player did what he thought the team needed. They stopped listening to coaching instruction, stopped playing as a team and relied on their own individual talents. The season started to fall apart, and they found themselves at 3-4. It was time to rally the troops!
God tells us through His Word that teamwork is biblical! Jesus tells us over and over about His team, the Trinity, and His team Captain, God the Father. And Scripture tells us that if we want to know this Captain, we have to get to know Jesus, Himself. The Bible also says that Jesus told His disciples that when He left, His substitute, the Holy Spirit, would take over for Him.
Through this process, Jesus was teaching His disciples about His team and how it works together. It’s time we all take a lesson from Him. Does your earthly team need rebuilding? Try using the example set for us by the Lord and start working together! Dive into the Word and study how the Lord’s team works and start applying it to your own life. Then, sit back and watch Him transform your group of individuals into a unified team!
1. Can you list three positives about each of your teammates, co-workers or family members?
2. Do these teammates know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that they can count on you on and off the field?
3. Do you include the "Ultimate Team,” the Trinity, in your daily life? If not, what do you need to do to start?
