Ready:
"Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."  -Philippians 3:13-14
Set:

Eight years ago, I started the simple discipline of picking a one-word theme for the upcoming year. That’s right—one word—not a phrase or statement, just a single word. And to this point, it has been nothing short of life changing. Through this exercise, God has stretched me spiritually, physically, and emotionally. This exercise cannot be approached  alfheartedly. Satan will come out in full force. This is truly a discipline for those who want to press in and see God do great things through them.

It’s for those who want to live life to the fullest—no retreat, no regrets. It’s also a process of teaching, correcting, and molding, for when we are soft in the Creator’s hands, He can form us into His vessel!

It has been my experience that God quickly reveals His plans for the year. That word (be it a discipline, fruit of the Spirit, character trait, or attribute of God) will brand you for life! Be careful with your word. It will change the way you compete and live your life!

Go:

Six steps to developing a one-word theme:

1. Prepare your heart through prayer. What is God saying to you?
2. Search the Scriptures. What verses is the Lord bringing to your attention?
3. What area does God want to take hold of in your life and use for His glory?
4. Ask God for the word. Respond like Samuel, "Speak, Lord, your servant is listening."
5. Share your word with a trusted person.
6. Live out your word on and off the field of competition

Extra Reading: Luke 10:42, Luke 18:22, Mark 10:21, John 9:25
Overtime:

Lord, I ask that You will make it a life-changing year. I want to live for You alone. Reveal Yourself to me as You show me what my theme will be. Through this process, I desire to know You better. Amen.
