Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own understanding; think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
I recently had the "pleasure" of running my 3rd 5K. A good friend of mine was also running the race, and at the beginning, I decided I was going to try and keep her pace since we have similar times. I soon realized her pace was a bit faster than mine, so I then decided I would make sure to keep her in my sights. This worked out great for a while and I kept pushing along, making good time (for me, at least). We then got to a weird turn and suddenly I didn't see her anymore. My pusher had disappeared, and it made me feel a little lost and like I wasn't going to be able to finish.
Looking back, that race is so similar to the walk we have with Christ. So many times, we start our walk trying to keep perfect stride with Him, which is impossible. We then realize that if we keep Christ ahead of us and follow Him, He'll lead us in the right direction and help keep us going. When we lose sight of Him, we can feel lost.
I know that there are times in my journey that I lose sight of Christ and the way that I should be going. I will stumble and fall, but through His love, guidance, and grace, I can get back up and keep running along. It is through God's love for us that He has allowed us to share in His heavenly kingdom. We must first believe in the saving power of His Son, Jesus Christ, then daily take up our cross and follow Him.
I finished the 5K with my best time yet, but felt like if I hadn't lost sight of my pusher, I could have done better. Today, take time to make sure Christ is your puller and that He's pulling you in a direction that will glorify him.
1) What things do you use to help push you through tough situations in your life? Is Christ one of them?
2) Is there anything stopping you from putting Christ in front of you and allowing Him to guide you along?
3) What steps can you take today to put Christ in front your path?
