Posting Up
The NBA Finals are always a blast to watch. I don’t know about you, but I love to see the key match-ups these games bring with great teams and great players.
Even though lacrosse was my primary sport, I loved to play basketball as a kid. I loved to invest hours in front of our driveway hoop over the garage. At 6-foot-1, I didn’t have much height for a forward, so I quickly learned the art and importance of posting up against the defense.

The Starting Line - Your New Identity In Christ
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation; old things have passed away, and look, new things have come. –2 Corinthians 5:17
What good news! If you’re a believer in Christ, you’ve become “new,” and the following is already true of you:
Addicted
- Josh talked about addictions. He came out of a life of addictions. How did he define being addicted?
- Where were the areas he listed that people are addicted today? Which of these areas are struggles for you?
- Have you overcome an addiction in your life? Through Christ, what have you had victory over?
- Read 1 Corinthians 15:10. How would you define grace?
- Without God’s grace, Hamilton would not be the man he is today. How has God’s grace covered you?
- Josh mentioned mercy as well. What is the difference between grace and mercy, spiritually?
- Do you know someone who has an addiction? Reach out to them and pray for them.
The Story of Gideon and Mideon
I. Introduction (Judges 6)
- Israel had become an evil nation that had forgotten God’s laws (v 1a)
- God allowed the Midianites to conquer Israel for seven years (v 1b)
- The Midianites treated the Israelites very badly, robbing them and destroying their fields and crops (vv 2 – 5)
- The Israelites prayed to be freed from the Midianites (v 7)
II. God calls Gideon to free Israel (Judges 6)
San Diego Special
At a typical San Diego Chargers practice or game, offensive coordinator Cam Cameron does a lot of pointing.
“That’s what we do as coaches,” Cameron joked. “We point.” And as cliché as it may sound, it remains true that the 20-year coaching veteran does more than just point out the plays he wants the reigning AFC-West Champion Chargers to run on the field. He also points his athletes to Jesus Christ through his life, which has been transformed since the day Cameron accepted Christ at an FCA Camp when he was 13.
Defeating Jealousy
Jealousy can destroy a team. A lot of it comes from outside people saying, “You can do this and you can do that” or “the only reason you can’t do it is because that other player is getting two more shots than you are.”
It’s funny when you think about it, but that happens and then you start buying into it, and you start saying, “Yeah, I should be playing more.” But whatever God has for you, you will have. Nobody else can take that away. If you’re not getting the playing time you should get or the recognition you should get, work harder. Work harder. Don’t sit there and blame somebody else for what they’re doing.
Bacon and Eggs
In a sitting position in a circle, designate one person to be “it.” Go around the circle and tap each person on the head and say “bacon” each time. When the person who's “it” says, “eggs,” that person that got tapped must get up and run in the opposite direction. When the two meet together, they must stop; shake hands and say, “Good morning. How are you?” Both continue around the circle and sit down in the empty spot bef
Turn It Loose and Play
Sweaty palms, a racing heart and butterflies in the stomach were my Friday night enemies. The opening drive always made me nervous. I wanted our team to make a statement on the opening drive—to march straight down the field and score. But, at times the fear seemed almost paralyzing.
In those moments, my high school head coach would always remind us to “turn it loose and play.” I found great encouragement in that statement to let go of my fear and nervousness and just play the game.
Deciding Your Future
Plot of Skit: People are sitting on a fence and Jesus and Satan are at opposite ends of the fence. Jesus says, “Come and follow me.” to the first person on the fence. That person asks, “Why should I?”. Satan gives reasons to come with him while Jesus combats Satan with the Word of God and reasons to follow Him.
His Glory - "It's Not About Me!"
Day 1
As an athlete, I need to understand God’s definition of glory and why He deserves it all. Competition is not about me. Life is not about me. I must die to myself and fully understand the power, majesty, and authority of God.
Bob Froese
Former NHL goaltender-turned-pastor Bob Froese talks about his days of defending pucks to currently defending the Good Newsl of Jesus Christ.
Sharks and Minnows
Sharks and Minnows can be played outside or in a gym.
In the gym, you can use the baseline and mid court line of the basketball court. The boundaries are from sideline to sideline. If outside, you will need to draw or tape lines about 30-40ft apart. Have the group all stand on one of the lines (they will be the minnows).
Pick one kid to stand on the opposite line (they will be the shark. On you word, the minnows will try to run to the other line and avoid being tagged by the shark. The shark tries to tag as many minnows as they can. If a minnow is tagged, they turn into a shark for the next round.
