    Living Inside Out

As athletes and coaches, we understand the meaning of discipline. Our lives are filled with early morning workouts and late nights in the gym. We sacrifice whatever it takes to reach our goals. We know that if we work harder than our opponents, we have a better chance of winning.

  • Living Is Christ, Dying Is Gain

As a Christian, I understand the meaning of Philippians 1:21, but the events of 1999 gave me a new perspective on the verse. God had blessed me with wonderful, caring parents despite the fact that my father did not walk in the light. My mother, on the other hand, had my two siblings and myself in church every time the doors were open. Many nights I would awaken to her praying and weeping for my father’s salvation. My father was a provider who loved his family more than anything and worked long, hard hours at a factory to demonstrate that love. He gave us material things, but all I wanted was for him to be happy and walk in God’s victorious peace.

Last year, I was on the junior varsity basketball team. Our record was 23-4. It was the best record our coach had ever had. However, he was not pleased with us all of the time. He continually told us that even though we were winning games, we had not played to our full potential. He told us we had yet to play a full four quarters at our hardest. Just because we beat other teams the coach believed we were not living up to the standards he had for us on the court.

  • Living Sacrifices

Sacrifice is something most people never even consider, let alone complete. Let’s consider what it is to be a living sacrifice.

At the time of this writing by Paul, sacrifices were usually killed and laid upon an altar to be burned. The problem with “living sacrifices” is that they tend to crawl off the altar when it gets a little hot. We start with good intentions of making a sacrifice for our teammates, our family, or career, but when it gets uncomfortable we often snatch the sacrifice from the altar and lose the reward that comes from faithfulness.

Ex-Eagle Star Logan Still a Safety For Troubled Kids
    By Don Leypoldt

Randy Logan walked into a mess.

The collegiate All-American, the team captain at Michigan who was voted the Wolverines’ MVP his senior year, found himself starting in the Philadelphia Eagles’ 1973 opener.

Across Pennsylvania at this time Pittsburgh’s notorious "Steel Curtain" began to re-define great defense.

The 1973 Eagle defense was not a Steel Curtain.  They were more like a Shower Curtain.  The Eagles ranked second to last in the NFL in scoring defense en route to an ugly 5-8-1 finish.
